Review: Domke F-3X Super Compact

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Domke bag and didn’t really know why people love them so much until now. You’ve got to really experience it to appreciate it.

I bought mine off the eBay and paid some import tax. It’s arrived from Hongkong within a week. There are many color to choose from, Black Ballistic, Black, Olive, Chocolate, Sand and Wax Wear version. I went with black. I don’t see myself carrying this bag a lot since I usually don’t carry any camera bag.

All I normally carry are two Nikon D3S, two lenses attached to the bodies and a Newswear pouch. I use a camera bag to transport equipment to my car. Once I’ve arrived at an assignment, I will leave the bag in the car. However, if I wanted to blend in or it’s an easy or long assignment where I don’t want to be carrying a lot of gear or needed the ability to hide my camera if something is not right, I would carry a bag, one Nikon D3S and two lenses.

Before I bought the Domke, I used to use Thinktank Speed Racer. I don’t really like it that much because it’s too much padding and the strap is very slippery. It also doesn’t hold as much gear as the Domke.

Inside the bag are Nikon D3S, 14-24, 24-70, 70-200. I don’t normally carry all three lenses. Usually I would go with only two of them.

I also attach a Newswear pouch onto the Domke. Inside are stuff like press credential, rain cover, lens cleaning cloth, spare battery and sometimes 1.7 teleconverter. If I leave the Domke in my car, I would detach the Newswear pouch from the Domke and attach it to my belt.

Again, all of these stuff can fit inside the Domke F-3X . I can also put a flash on top of a camera in case I needed one.
